I had the thrill yesterday of seeing my first whale of the season here in Yelapa. Just a month ago we had quite a show of humpbacks in the Monterey Bay. Our little Mitchel’s Cove in Santa Cruz had a wonderful display of whale antics. I wonder…are those the same whales from Santa Cruz, here now in Yelapa??
But the thing about whale watching is exactly that, you have to watch for them. While here in Yelapa, I sometimes get caught up in painting this, repairing that, fixing this, getting rid of that. It’s when I sit and stare out at the ocean in all of its wonder that I am able to observe the amazing miracles of this planet. When I look out at the ocean, I see a one dimensional plane of blue, but I know that there is a whole other world that I can’t see, a world of mountains and valleys, a world of life abundant, yet I can only “see” the surface. OH how like life that is, we often just see the surface of people, places or things and don’t take the time or the effort to look deeper and see the richness below.
Ah, but as I gaze out on the rippling water, I close my eyes and marvel at what’s below.
