For those of you who stayed in Casa Estrella last year, you will be saying…”good thing they are replacing that ROOF” We have loved the palapa roof in Estrella, its tall rustic presence has had a wonderful history. But alas, palapa roofs (made from palm fronds) only have a life of about 7 years and Estrella’s roof was literally falling apart. Another problem was that the palapa made the casa dark and didn’t give us enough open ocean view which is so magnificent. So we have decided to change the roof structure, putting in red tile instead of palms and opening up the area to allow more light and ocean view. The bathroom is being remodeled to provide cleaner surfaces without taking away the open view to the ocean or the uniqueness of the space. David has put his amazing touch onto the pillars by carving stars in the wood forms so that when the concrete was poured the stars shone through. It is going to be lovely. We are hurrying to get the roof on before the summer rains begin. So I will keep you posted.
