Eagle's Nest at El Jardin

March 2008

We had a wonderful week; thank you.  Both my husband and I agreed that we needed one more
day to do absolutely nothing. Who knew we could occupy ourselves so fully in such a remote
place.  IT WAS FANTASTIC.  And, an adventure.  I must admit, my own bathroom would have
been nice and, next time, would consider the other three places.  However, there’s a lot to be
said about that Million dollar view.

Casa Estrella

February 2008

To Casa Santa Cruz, Chrissi, David and all the people of Yelapa,

Thank you all very much for the spectacular week hosting us on our honeymoon. My wife,
Jessica and I had a great time and it seems that we discovered something new around every
turn. While staying out here I didn’t miss my T.V. or cell phone. One memory that sticks out is that
while on our long trek to the Cascades Falls, we saw what looked like a large mat of horse hair
on the side of a big rock, but after a closer look it turned out to be thousands of Daddy Long Leg
spiders partying and having a good time. Well we had fun and have to go. Stay small, Yelapa.

Magniifco! A wonderful place to dream, meet new friends who all have a story- We will take our
drams and memories with us.

Marcia, Beacon, New York

Yes, Marcia, and Tom, John and I spent a wonderful week in the fantasy tree house of Casa
Estrella. We even met Cynthia, who told us she and her family had designed this “toy” house. So
many interesting people to meet and musicians to play with. A Great dancing at the Yacht Club.
Odd that we-who never “go out” at night when we travel- found so much night life and partying
here. It’s quite a place. Quizas we’ll be back someday. Chrissi and Sarah for your warm welcome
and help.

We leave tomorrow after 12 wonderful days. Chrissi, thank you for you attentiveness and love of

This is my 5th visit here(Janet has spent a lifetime here) and my favorite stay of all. My senses
are full and yet I feel a calm that has enveloped me. It’s like living in a moving painting complete
with sound and smell. I have tried to commit it all to memory until I find myself here again. Thank
you for everything Chrissi, we shall return…(hopefully when Obama is President!!)

January 2008

My first sight of a human was a man with a pail and hoe. Naturally, from Maine, I thought he was
clamming. “Something like that” he replied. It was Patrick, patrolling the trails for hard to find
donkey dung for a new garden plot. “ keep looking, you are bound to find some “ I said
encouragingly. La looks far and wide for a Manzano substitute…Charley will have to do. Found
great birding just behind the town beach on the stone walkway to E Paso. Explored and found
Maquito Restaurant up river. Played croquet at Passion Flower on the side hill course. Peeked
beyond the gates at Verana, saw a trogan(?) on the way back. Took a trip to the Marrietta’s and
saw the blue footed boobies. Got in two fish fries at the Eclipse. La Bristas is tops, followed by
Pollo Bollo, Eclipse, Gloria’s ,Mimi’s and Yolanda’s for tacos in town. Beach food and Manquito’s
are also great. Weather was cool to just right/Water was also variable, often too rough for
snorkeling. Chrissi and Patrick a delight. Raccoon attack one night by the duct tape held them
off. All in all a great stay.

Casa Luna
July 2007

Casa Luna
July 2007
I learned about Yelapa from a friend of mine who was supposed to get married at Hotel Lagunita.
She ended up changing her wedding plans and getting married in California but I couldn't get
Yelapa out of my head. I did a lot of research online and found dozens of "casitas". After sifting
through all of the information, I decided on Casa Santa Cruz, particularly Casa Luna.
Casa Luna was much more than I had expected. When Sarita wrote that "you can snorkel in your
back yard, she was not exaggerating. It has been a beautiful experience. So far, the only
challenges are the mosquitos and racoons who keep you up all night.
My husband and I came here to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We love having this beautiful
palapa to ourselves. We've done so much since we got here. Snorkeled, swam, visited both
waterfalls, eaten at the bakery Pollo Bollo, and Hotel Lagunitas. All were excellent and fairly
priced.
I highly recommend the ceviche at Hotel Lagunitas. The portions are huge! Oh, I forgot to
mention the best huevos rancheros I've eaten in my whole life at Fanny's. If you eat there, you
might meet Jonas, a very kind man who will sell you pretty handmade necklaces and offer you
everything you could ever want, including the "gift from the mountain" which we declined because
we don't smoke:)
The weather has been variable. Today is the first day it has rained all day. It's only noon so I
hope it clears up since it is our second-to-last day. Today was the day we said we would lay on
the beach and do nothing!
This is my first trip to Mexico (as well as my husband's) that is not Baja. Yelapa is a lot less
Americanized than I expected, but this is a good thing! We're here off-season so a lot of the
restaurants mentioned in this book and Sarita's notes are closed.
We definitely want to return next year but don't know if we should do it during the hight season or
not. It is kind of nice having the whole place to ourselves, yet it did feel a little awkward to be the
only people dining at {ollo Bollo, for instance. Do the locals wish the tourists would just go away
for a month or two? I think they must get sick of us "gringos".
Definitely the nicest people here are David, the lady from the bakery and the people from the
closest market. Our first day here we were adopted by a tawny pit-bull mix we affectionately
called "nina". She was adorable, sweet and loyal. Our first night, she fought off the hideous
racoons trying to invade our palapa. The second day she ran off with her boyfriend, "Pecas" at
the beach. We miss her!
Our last full day here, we have plans to visit Isabel's Huichol Art Gallery and eat coconuts on the
beach and try that famous "pie" everyone keeps telling us about.
Thank you Sarita, thank you David for this amazing experience!!
My favorites:
fireflies
electrical storms
glow-in-the-dark plankton
hummingbirds
plumeria
glorious hibiscus
land crabs
donkey dung!
tropical fish in the wild, vibrant colors
butterflies
geckos
iguanas
falling coconuts (watch out!)
mountain air
the upriver waterfall (it's hard to find so get directions)
the hammock
swinging beds
hot water!
fully-equipt kitchen
friendly pooches
nice locals
crazy boatrides
fresh mangos
one scorpion who laid on his back and couldn't get up!

Casa Luna
June 2007
On our second visit to Casa Luna we were lucky enough to stay 2 weeks! Here are some of our
memories and experiences from this magical visit:
1. Donkey rush hour. Where are they going with all that cement?
2. 2 a.m. monsoon and 20 hour power outtage and the lightning storm
3. crabs. The angry red guys and the silly purple ones.
4. Boris the iguana that lives under Casa Sol
5. Cheese quesadillas and chicken enchiladas on the beach at Coco's.
6. So sad to hear of the passing of Geo . . . but had the honor of meeting Lola the kitten. And we
love the dogs of Yelapa!
7. Snorkeling with the sting rays and the butterflies
8. Swimming out to the far buoy
9. Fireworks on the beach
10. Sitting in the treehouse and reading
11. David for his hospitality and friendly smile
Denver, CO

Casa Sol
June 2007
We leave changed forever. While here we have no worries, no problems, and have no idea what
time or day it is! The memories will be our calming when we return to our "real life".
Just sitting in our tree house watching nature and the people is enough entertainment. We have
come to relax and enjoy the simple life. What a gift.
Entertainment:
1. Watching my husband remove 18 crabs from the shower
2. Fisherman catching octopus
3. The islands and seeing dolphins and manta rays
4. Trying to find places that are open or the time that they are open.
5. Meeting people from all over - unlike city life, everyone is friendly and happy. It's like a pill we
all take and become like the people of Yelapa. Thank God that friendliness is contageous!
6. The sounds
7. The lack of sounds - TV, phones, cars, 40 fourth graders
8. Dodging hummingbirds while sitting and reading
9. David - the best! Sorry we didn't get to meet Geo. Nanu was a wonderful companion for all of
us.

June 2007
Arrived in Yelapa after too much work and knew it was a pot of gold. Casa Luna was perfect for
us and I met a few people who wished they were in our shoes. Low season is a bit slower than
even we expected but we soon learned to take what you can get when a place is open. Fell right
in with the local population and loved socializing. The hotel was a sure bet for great food at a
reasonable price when nothing else was open. Spent a day kayaking to the next town and back
and hiked to the cascada. If we weren't being kicked out, we would stay forever.

Casas Sol and Luna
May 2007
We had a fantastic week here, the best weather possible. The cool breezes throughout our days
were so refreshing. We LOVED that feature. Swimming at the beach at the bottom of our stairs
was beyond belief, every day.
It's easy to get by with a smile and a limited vocabulary: buenos dias, buenos tardes, por favor,
hola. That's about it. Cerveza fria was my favorite. Other favorites: the beach that's 68 steps from
the gate. The banana bread at the bakery. The pollo BBQ at Pollo Bollo. The site of a manta ray
breaking the surface of the water. The yellow-breasted bird with the black mask. Drifting off and
then waking up to the sound of the surf on the rocks.
We've been to many places in this world but never have we been so close to the sea. This place
is indeed magical!
And Geo and David are the most gracious hosts ever.

Our "Girl trip" was so wonderful here in Yelapa and Casa Sol was a delight. This place is truly
paradise and the people are so warm and welcoming. Geo and David made our time so pleasant.
See you again.

What can I say? The BBQ got built. . . Geo died . . . A big dead fish floated by yesterday . . .
David's baby is really cute. Life and death are intertwined here as everywhere. One seems to
need the other . . . for balance don-shu-know.
I tried to bust into Verana yesterday to see where they are taking all the supplies, but I got cold
feet and a up-tight vibe as I was beginning my final assault so I turned around pronto . . . pretty
exciting stuff! Makes me want to kick back and have a little BBQ.
Time to return to Santa Cruz for awhile. I'll be back, though.

April 2007
We leave here changed . . . life is a bit slower, richer for having been here. We've never been
somewhere where we've been so accepted by all. We are filled with the sounds of the crashing
waves, the sights of the dolfins in our view, the smells of the burros and the tastes of the many,
many wonderful restaurants here. Thanks for all for making it happen.

April 2007
Yelapa,
Thank you for the exposure of a time here things are as they should be . . . The eerie sensation
as a cruise ship passes us through its voyage in the Pacific as we listen to B. Darrin old tunes.
The taste of food as never felt a hunger for . . .For those who follow during this time . . .
Remember . . . it's fall and the leaves fall hard at night! Raccoons will eat tortilla chips. And Geo
is a great friend day and night. She likes cold water and icing sugar-coated "donitos". Thanks
David for all your caring attention.

This was such a charmed place. The view over the water to P.V. is forever etched into our minds.
Dolfins visited daily, sometimes putting on unbelievably choreographed water ballets, other times
earnestly feeding, and at times, just gliding along. Lots of visitors, the iguana, the little red crab,
Geo the "chico perro", such treats!
Thank you David for all your support and the "guava cure" for "tourista" - he so appreciated all

Thank you for this experience . . . the casa, the town, the people, the rental dogs . . . the list goes
on and on.
Activities to consider:
-- Tandem parasailing from 2200 ft with Chris and Aldo. Inquire at Isabel's. $150 USD. It's so
weird to run towards a cliff at full speed then fly with the birds. Totally worth it!
-- Scuba diving. Suggest local divers. Contact Leslie at 322 221 6429 in PV. We had a first-timer
and a claustrophobic with us and the teaching/assistance was so good. She sunk and breathed
underwater with no ill affects.
-- Fishing. Contact same. Fresh fish caught and cooked at Chimo the same day. Beautiful!
-- Snorkeling. Just a tip, wear sandals as the sting rays are out there.
--Favorite Restaurant: Andy's. The food and the owners. Pollo Bollo has good ribs and pescado
right across the street.
--Nicest dog: Although we had three, Geo is the best girl in the world!
--Most expensive (but lovely) artwork: Isabels

friends and not-so-old friends from last year's trip to PV has been wonderful. I hope everyone
helps keep Yelapa clean and healthy for years to come!

Yes, we luv Luna. Casa Luna is now a part of our best memories and our heart's content.
Muchos Gracias.
Best caretaker: David . . . Thank you!
Best local pet: Geo! If only you had puppies!
Best thing to bring next time: BUG SPRAY!
Best store to avoid: The one in the middle of town with Dolphy ice-cream window. Somehow our
groceries cost $75 USD here!? Huh? Oh well, not next time. . .
Best day trip for $0: The long (90 minute) hike to upriver waterfall  -- idyllic!
Best day trip for $150: Severino's boat to Islas Marietas -- awesome ceviche! Bumpy boat ride.
Really cool, unusual rocky, bird-filled islands!
Best meal: amberjack fillets at Celida's Eclipse Cafe in the garden out back. Yummy!
Best critter sighting: little tropical bird that fell out of its nest near our casa - yellow and blue
irridescent!

March 2007
This place (Casa Sol) is so cool, why would anyone even bother to leave? Right on, as usual, we
did little leaving of the casa, save for some much-needed beer runs to the deposito, and a
sweltering slog to the cascada lejana (no you need't fend off the bozhmas for the path and hike
an hour and beyond the projected 90 minute mark to reach the falls!)

March 2007
Es un lugar encantador. Peace, quiet, no cars!
The bounty of nature - saw whales, starfish, jellyfish, butterflies, iguanas, tropical fish, boobies,
an eel, stingrays jumping and phosphorescence in the sea at night - glows in the dark, twinkles to
the stars . . . waterfalls, hibiscum, birds of prey.
Our favorite restaurant is the small "in-town" waterfall for the ambiance.
The fish brochette at Pollo Bollo was the best meal I had in Mexico after traveling for 2 months
and the best restaurant, the Galeria, is mediocre, and not worth the money, but the view is lovely.
The tacos place is excellent! (Yolanda's)

The phones start ringing. Karina calls Isabel. Isabel tells Rob. Rob tells us there is a rabid fox
going from house to house and shows up with a machete. A sculptor with a very hard piece of
wood hit the fox on the head and killed it.
Went to the cemetery to look for Saul. He died January 15. He made great pina coladas.
Double-murder and suicide in PV near Tortilla Flats.
Karina lost her car keys (found them later).
Did I mention it is a full moon?
And I ate too much to mention.
21 years of great memories.
Some full moon - March - Saturday - Faye passing through high tides - huge surf
Corte Madera, CA

March 2007
Wait! This is how myths are made! The fox ran into Isabel's and attacked Judy's pants, luckily
she was wearing long ones! She screamed. Bev and Is came running and the fox ran out and
down to the old Bobby Jones house where he ran after Kate screaming, while Thomas ran after
IT screaming. It then ran over to Karina's and ran into her house and went into a rolling-on-the-
floor fight with her dogs. I called Karina from Isabel's to warn her about the fox a this exact
minute. Then called Thomas and Kate. While on the phone with Thomas, he heard noises,
screaming from the path and went to see what happened. I waited on the phone. Meanwhile,
Karadwyn and Paul, who had heard about Judy when they were at Is's were walking on the path.
Suddenly, the fox leaped toward them foaming at the mouth and baring white teeth, which is what
they saw in the light of the flashlight before KAradwyn stepped aside and Paul, loosing the
flashlight, smacked the thing with a board he was carrying. (Later, Paul said he did it by sound ).
Paul then went nuts, obviously from fear, and knocked the poor beast senseless and dead 5
times over.

We thought that was the end of the rabid foxes except Jaime later said he saw 8 at the graveyard
the next night and then one was at Isabel's attacking the legs of the ladder that the phone guy
was up in. I know that for sure because I was in the shower at Isabel's and saw him stranded up
in it from the shower. Everyone was on pins and needles knowing there was at least one more
rabid fox out there for a couple nights to come. I saw one 2 nights later in front of Jan's casita
which scared the crap out of me. Eric, Rob and Alan went up with machetes and clubs but it was
long gone and that night Eric started screaming and jumping over me and almost fell off the side
of Jan's platform, knocking over all our candles, crashing the glass everywhere and getting blood
all over the mosquito netting he was caught in. The compound went silent. Deanne was crying.
Isabel started up but got caught by her sequined pajamas in her mosquito net. Jenni, my
daughter, who had been sleeping with us started giggling. Judi thought it was me crying and went
to tell Is to get me to sleep in her bed. Bev and Rob yelled to see if we were OK. I was sure Eric
had a fox attached to his back before realizing it was all a dream Eric was having that he was
saving me from the fox! We giggled for an hour in embarassment and relief and then the place
was quiet. We all went back to sleep and the next day heard the beginning of many stories of
how the second fox was killed. Some say a crossbow, others say a pistol. Whatever! There have
been no more sightings! Yelapa went into a fog-covered spell and now, a week later, we've
caught our breath and the sun is out. What is next?!?!

Pollo Bollo - best place in town - even better than most restaurants in SF!

Final thoughts as we pack up for P.V. . . dogs - love them, and so friendly. Food is amazing, no

Been all over Mexico and never saw dogs treated so well. They sell dog food at the tiendas.
What a concept.

Casa Sol

January 2007

I have been coming to Yelapa since 1979 and seen many changes (changes, but some things
never change, the people). The people of Yelapa are the best. The natives are friendly and
sincere. Celida and David couldn't have been nicer, making this magical setting and wonderful
house (Casa Sol) even more welcoming and comfortable.

This trip, unlike many others, was all about relaxing and just watching the ocean and the fish and
birds and animals that live in and around here.

Even Geo, the dog, seemed intent on making my stay special with her loving looks and sweet
attention!

Thanks for a great stay, until I return again

Casa Luna, Casa Sol

January 2007

What a beautiful place! We stayed in Luna for a few days then in Sol and loved them both. The
view is amazing! Just in general, we loved Yelapa -- I loved the laid-back atmosphere and the
dogs coming in and out of the restaurants. And the birds around here are amazing. I wish we
could stay longer!

Casa Estrella

January 2007

This has been by far our most relaxing vacation. It's hard to adjust to truly relaxing. Now we have
to adjust back!

Our favorites were tacos at Yolandas, breakfast at the Eclipse and coffee and smoothies at the
Vortex. Hanging out at the Vortex is great as you are right at the beach.

The pool at the town waterfall is very refreshing (and cold) for its fresh water feels great on the
skin.

Our trip to the Marietas with Ceferino was very memorable - what a gorgeous place! Whales,
dolphins, turtles, and all the fish you see while snorkeling.

Definitely a place to return to while you attain a better Spanish vocabulary and lighter luggage.

Casa Estrella
January 2007

We told our friends we are going "camping" in Mexico. No fancy resorts or shows. Just rest in the
open air, cook our own meals and try to get bored. This place is everything we hoped it would be.

We grated fresh coconut for coconut shrimp, baked banana bread in a pot, omelettes,
empanadas, . . .yum!

Hiked the trails until we ached and then hiked some more! Saw iguanas, clusters of butterflies,
gorgeous flowers and even a scorpion in the sitting area of the casa. No problem - dispatched
him quickly with dustpan and broom.

Observed the local people about their tasks - mules packing supplies daily, horse-owners
bringing the herd home at the end of a days work.

We never got bored - lots of welcome rest - the stress in our shoulders and necks is gone.

Gracias David and Geo for checking in every morning.

We plan to return with a better Spanish vocabulary and even lighter luggage!

Casa Sol
January 2007

What a perfect way to wrap up our trip to Mexico! Yelapa is a great place to unwind - no cars, no
roads, some wonderful locals and a perfect palapa -- Casa Sol. We loved listening to the waves
and even spotted whales and dolfins from upstairs. It's great to get back to simplicity and Casa
Sol provides just that! Thanks for everything!

What a beautiful palapa!! We had a wonderful and relaxing time here. My favorites were Pollo
Bollo for dinner (we ate there 4 times) and our boat trip to the Marietas Islands to see the Booby
birds for the entire day. The bakery had splendid banana bread and cinnamon rolls. Also, try to
do the waterfall in town EARLY in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, Enjoy
your stay at Casa Luna, you will love it.

Christmas 2006

Our first Christmas away from home - San Luis Obispo, CA.

What a beautiful village. There is such a strong sense of community here. To own land here you
must be born here. This is a good thing. The panga captain (Luis is fantastic, IZA 1), Eric his
brother at Chicos or Pollo Bollo, Hortensia at Tienda YURA, they are a great family.

Did you notice, no cars? Makes walking a pleasure.

One last thing to do - take charge of the waste stream. The ocean is your life, treat it well, bring
composting toilets now!

We have much to learn from Yelapa - We have much to share with Yelapa.

Ah, what can we say—The ocean right at your doorstep . . . literally. Spent a wonderful week.
Sun during the day and a cool breeze at night.

Not to be missed:

1. Salsa Huichol from the closest tienda
2. Passion Flower Margaritas at Vortex (and the shrimp burrito)
3. Boat trip to the Marrietas on the “Norma” w/ Captain Jay…Whales!!
4. Pollo Bollo
5. Nachos at Andy’s
6. The Bakery-everything we had
7. Chocolate/coconut pie-Augustina (That is one a day-try to beat us!)

Seven days of R and R in a truly beautiful place. We did it all – hike, swim, the Marietas, read,
slept, and ate, ate, ate. The bakery has the best cookies. Margaritas at Chico’s and Vortex –
Yum! A little piece of paradise. Feliz navidad.

December 2006
The most relaxing vacation ever! I love the food, especially Chico’s, Pollo Bollo, Gloria’s and

birds! Enjoyed hiking to both waterfalls. Went parasailing and sat on the beach sipping
margaritas. Can hardly wait to come back again!

I like swimming in the ocean but the saltwater did not taste good to me. I saw dolphins, whales
and turtles. I liked lots of the restaurant’s food, especially Chico’s. I went parasailing with my
mom. It was fun. I got to see the whole town! I made a friend. Her name is Ramona. I liked riding
on the boats. I like the hammock upstairs on the right in Casa Sol. I had a great time and I want to
come back and collect more shells. I like David’s dog. We saw four scorpions. We saw four

Enjoyed the stay very much. It has changed our lives in the way we think of what is important.
Hope fellow guests will have as great a time as we had. We will be sure to return.
p.s. Thanks to David, Geo and all the other friendly people

November 2006
As the ocean crashes,
one by one birds fly overhead,
schools of fishes swim shiftly,
hiding from the curious snorkelers above,
surrounded by a culture so foreign,
yet they hold smiles and open arms like well-known neighbors,
butterflies glide in the wind,
colourful as if pain brushes, themselves
beds hamnging from the ceiling,
rocking you to sleep like a mother’s arms
beautiful, peaceful, relaxed
I wish I could stay here forever

What a fantastic four days! Not enough time to really enjoy the wonders of Yelapa. What an
amazingly friendly place. The locals make you feel as if you’ve lived here forever. David is

treat. . . what cuisine! The views spectacular and the food to match! Until next time Casa Luna!

We had a great stay at La Luna. Great food at Pollo Bollo, Mimi’s (Friday night), Eclipse (fish fry

gringo on the last day.

Thank you and deep gratitude for Casa Sol, the rest and renewal. It is divine! David, Geo and

Casa Luna
We came here to slow down, relax, take in the experience that is Yelapa, and of course, we only
touched the surface. We did, however, relax. We made friends with the crabs, bugs and reptiles.
Casa Luna was our tree house for three days and we hardly left!

We enjoyed shopping for groceries for our simple meals. It’s easy not to notice how complicated
going to the grocery store has become in the USA until you come here. Muy bueno! Fruit, eggs,
tequila . . . all simple pleasures, as it should be.

Dinner last night at Pollo Bollo was great. Thank you for being such great hosts, we will be back
again someday!

Casa Luna
Time passed far too quickly here in paradise. Casa Luna fulfilled my “Swiss Family Robinson”
fantasies and I will remember this brief stay for the rest of my life. We loved fishing and snorkeling
off the rocks.

Matilde Lorenzo was a great guide to the “Cascada” on horseback. Keep an eye on our beloved
Charlie – a faithful dog to us the entire stay.

What lovely people we met. Bless you all and thank you for the greatest experience of my life.
We will be back as soon as we can! Hasta Manana!

Muchisimas gracias. Me voy por rezones de causa mayor. Huracaine John is on his way! I will go

you David, Geo, Charlie and also thanks internet that put me in contact with Stephen and such a
wonderful place.

August 2006
Casa Luna
Words cannot describe our true feelings – we don’t want to leave. The smells, views, people,
nature – all will never be forgotten – until we are here again. Casa Luna is by far the best Casa in
Yelapa and this will be our home-away-from-home for years to come. 4 days was too short. We
slept like babies every night. Our activities included the horse ride to the waterfall (fantastic!),
snorkeling, swimming, walking around town and relaxing. I am so sad we are leaving. Many
thanks to David for being such a great host. We fell in love with Geo.

August 2006
Casa Sol
I arrived and fell in love with Casa Sol and its rustic accommodations. David greeted us and was
with his beloved Geo. They made us feel at home and we were also greeted by a lot of other
friends:
1.        Green lizard – Geico Insurance character – in the bathroom sink.
2.        hermit crabs on the steps and ledges
3.        burros and horses on the trails, out front hauling bags of rock, and their remains of
breakfast and lunch
4.        a small black snake curled up on the sitting area of the bathroom “Stinky”
5.        All the wonderful pelicans who fish and stand on the rocks all day. “Peco” was my favorite.
6.        A large bat-like silver and gray moth who hovered on our Chinese lantern all evening.
“Marty the Monster Moth”
7.        “Rocky Raccoon” who visited during sleeping hours and ate the dining room table, but
would never clean up his crumbs.
8.        All the dolphins who frolicked out front in the bay at dusk and dawn. Look for birds
gathering in groups and diving and floating. They play with dolphins.
9.        The fluorescent plankton at night
10.        A sensational array of butterflies in every color enjoying the hibiscus and birds of paradise
11.        A busy hummingbird enjoying the red-throated yellow hibiscus
12.        a large iguana sitting and staring at us on the rocks

In general, all of these critters were a delight to see and live among here in my newfound
paradise. I never read Robinson Crusoe, but I felt like I have lived and starred the leading role
here at Casa Sol. I have found peace and harmony with nature here and will never forget my
memories of Yelapa. I do, however, miss my dog, Tootsie.

August 2006
Casa Luna
Thanks David, Sarah and Stephen for letting us rent Casa Luna! We spent an amazing four days
here. You guys have done an awesome job building out the casas; everything from the stone
paths to the shaped walls to the amazing hanging bed and views from the 2nd floor.

Miscellaneous observations, Off-season plusses and minuses:
•        The heat and humidity. I think I sweated out a few gallons of water . . . It was somehow
purifying and made me feel like I was at times hallucinating or on a vision quest. Wow!
•        Lightning storms at night above the ocean. Amazing!!! Lit up the entire sky; purple and blue
light.
•        Our relationship with bugs has forever changed. After the first night, we realized we must
adjust our former adversarial stance and learn coexistence and tolerance. It helped to see all of
the other amazing creatures in some context of beach and jungle: wicked cool fireflies at night,
red crabs walking sideways, iguanas, etc.
•        Superfun getting kayaks from Casa Isabel and tooling around the bay
•        Trip to the “other” waterfall. We went on horseback and “burro-back”. I would like to hike in
cooler weather.
•        Most restaurants are apparently closed in the off-season. We did luck into Pollo Bollo upon
arrival on Sunday night. We went back the following Wednesday to have those margaritas that
we avoided on nthe first-night trail uncertainity, but they were closed : (
•        Geo and Manzano, the wonderdoggies! Manzano apparently trekked all the way thru town
to the beach to find us after we had kayaked across! Amazing! Just like that movie “The
Incredible Journey”, sort of.
•        The rain—It was great to both sit in the house with the rain beating down and to walk in the
rain to cool down.

Suggestions:
•        More comfortable chairs
•        Hooks on posts to hang wet clothing/towels
•        Inflatable tubes, boats
•        Trail and town maps

Thanks again for everything and thanks David for your hospitalidad

So sad to leave, such a good time had! I suppose we wouldn’t appreciate the time here so much

you seek.

No quiero regresar a mi casa . . ., pero, si no regreso, estare embarazada en una semana. Make
sure you do it down on the rocks; it’s a real good time. Wait until it starts to get dark, but use a
lotta Deet or you’ll be sorry! Te amo Yelapa! Gracias por todo!

July 2006
Two weeks just gets you into the rhythm of the sea . . . the people . . . the jungle. The insects
were merciful, the fish plentiful, the humidity unrelenting, the dolphins magical, the sea restful, the
storms invigorating . . .
David is attentive without being invasive . . . but willing to talk and visit if we needed to. Excellent!

A much too short of a visit – it was a treat to stay in Casa Luna. We are desert campers who
were grateful for ocean and jungle vistas. We hope to return some wintertime. David, thank you
for the switch, it was a perfect fit. We are leaving a few essentials – beach towels, tequila and a
fan. Farewell to Geo and all the doggy pals. We will remember our delightful breakfasts at the
waterfall.

July 2006
Thank you! We had an absolutely wonderful time. It’s a wonderful place. After a rainstorm there
are awesome toads!

Peace on Earth. Thanks to David and Geo. I enjoyed getting to see a sea snake.
Minneapolis, MN

July 2006
Things to take note of:
•        Yellow butterflies flocking to yellow hibiscus
•        Red hummingbirds flitting across the view
•        The skyline of P.V. lights at night
•        High tide, then low tide
•        Watching the crabs jump rock to rock
•        Brown pelicans swooping across the bay

Yes, we are at poo corner.

Suggestions:
•        Always use the mosquito nets at night. My daughter fed >300 in a night
•        If the bites are bad see Josean at the clinic. Chlortrimeton is better than benadryl

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Consider taking the horses to the Grand Falls. The spotted pony is the best guide.

Manzano will go everywhere with you, even on the water taxi.

David made the table, ladder and couch at Casa Estrella while we were here.

Eat ceviche at Coco’s.

Where are the Blue-footed Boobies (birds)?

You can call international at the Pollo Bollo phone.

Finally, it rained with big thunder and screaming lightning. Then the termites swarmed.

Today we are leaving. Thank you to all in Yelapa. We are happy to be greatful.

June 2006
It was an experience, let’s just leave it at that . . . an experience.

Casa Sol
Our last day here at Casa Sol. It is too beautiful to capture in photos! We love Yelapa; the
people, the friendly dogs that love to follow gringos around; the manta rays and dolphins leaping
out of the water . . . it all made for a very relaxing vacation. We came here at the end of a very
dry season – no water in the river, the hills look like winter back home, and every other person in
town comments on how hot it is – even the locals are sweating! Much thanks to Sarah and David
for your help in making us feel settled in, and to Geo and Manzano for keeping us company and
helping to show us around town. Geo is the sweetest, most friendly dog we’ve met here! Except
maybe for a scroungy dirty off-white poodle who took to us one day and followed (well, showed)
us around town our first day. If anyone should encounter said dog, please be extra nice to him.
He’ll make sure to be your Yelapa guide through the confusing maze of streets in the village.
Some suggestions:
•        Saul’s El Tule – very good food and Saul is quite friendly
•        El Manguitos, up-river is also very good. Luis speaks very good English and would be most
happy to tell you about his croquet championship.
•        Check out the gardens at Los Naranjos, also up river. Very lush when all else is dry.
•        Go down to Isabel’s Beach just after dark and splash around or swim in the water – you’ll
be surrounded by glowing plankton.
•        The big lizards seem to enjoy being hand-fed spend flowers. Don’t chase them off! They
eat nast bugs.

Some suggestions for Sarah – we would have loved a book on the birds and marine life of
Mexico. The Spanish dictionary came in very handy. Thank you for providing bug spray and
sunscreen! Thank you for your hospitality and taking us in at the last minute!

Farewell Yelapa, we’d love to return when it is GREEN here (and Casa Sol is my favorite palapa
in the entire town!)

P.S. don’t step on sting rays or puffer fish! Watch out for jellyfish!

We absolutely loved staying in the palapa in Yelapa because it’s “better than a condo in
Redondo.” Ha ha. Something we learned here.
There are some things we found quite entertaining in Yelapa:
•        Ménage a trios of toads
•        The chicken tree
•        Burrow poop everywhere
•        Walking quiche salesman
Here are some pointers for future guests:
•        It takes ½ hour to walk to the main beach
•        Water taxi costs 80 pesos to get to Puerto Vallarta
•        Cheap taco place (6 pesos) around corner from the ice cream shop.
•        Keep re-applying sun block every half hour.
Sarah and Karith are really nice and welcoming people. Thank you for making our stay
memorable. Please keep in touch. Salud!

Sarah, our stay with you taught us a lot. For example, that one person can haul many rocks and
still be up for a good fish barbecue. It was great to meet you in Yelapa and now we have
incentive to return. Had a lot of fun being at greater metropolitan Yelapa. If you are ever in
Vancouver please contact us and we will treat you to the most enjoyable visit we can. Take care
and hopefully we will meet again. Thank you for being our surrogate friend in Yelapa. We are
lucky to have met you on our marathon Marietas Islands trip—from morning until night. The tuna
was the best fish I’ve ever had in my life, although the red snapper came a close second.
Hopefully all will go well for you with rock picking and roof building.

I am going home mañana. I will miss the ocean and its song. You must listen to it. You have to be
able to be quiet at times. It has many songs to sing to you. The ocean; it crashes abruptly at
times, demanding your attention, like a child needing a toy. Then it is so soft, like a lover singing
sweet songs, telling you stories, and giving you a gift of solitude. Yelapa is one of the most
beautiful gifts I have been given for inner peace and yet a chance to dance on a bar to “Black-
eyed Peas.” Adios, Mexico. You will be remembered.

Mucho Gusto Brewers! Thank you for bringing me to your slice of paradise. It was so good to
finally meet you all, especially after hearing about you for the past 30 years! You are all even
more wonderful than I had expected. I absolutely love Yelapa and Casas de Santa Cruz. The
vegetation, the ocean, your “TV set” (the view of the ocean between posts in Casa Sol), the
stone work, all the cool little touches, but especially that fantastic mural in Casa Sol! Just looking
at it brings so many feelings to the surface. I hope to see you again. Meanwhile, please learn to

2 Mangos – diced
1 red onion – quartered & sliced thin
2 poblano peppers
2 yellow bell peppers*
*fire roast peppers – blacken skin – steam 5 minutes, peel (rub skin off with fingers), cut open &

Cover, chill.
Eat with everything, especially seafood.

Thank you, Brewers, for the lovely vacation and for being my willing test subjects in the kitchen. I’

We are just finishing up the end of our two week stay in Casa Sol. What a wonderful place for a
honeymoon! We loved watching the manta rays clear the water and following the dolphins across
the bay. Thanks to everyone for their hospitality, particularly David, Celida, Alejandro, Chico and
numerous niños.

Wish I would have planned more days here in our vacation. Two were not quite enough, but what
a lovely way to round up our vacation. David has been a very gracious person, which is very
refreshing. I would definitely like to come back her with my children. Thanks for a wonderful time.

Never had so much fun sweating and carrying wood. Could not have had much better of a crew
or job site than Casa Luna. Although work was on the agenda it didn’t seem like work. I had a
great time and thank all of you guys so much for making this happen. Can’t wait to get down
again for New Year Year’s and horrify David with my fortune cookie Spanish. Thanks again and
here is to my first visit to Casa Santa Cruz.

What a hoot! Really enjoyed our overnight stay in Casa Sol. Even had a big, light brown dog*
spend the night on our couch. Wonderful lightning show last night. It lasted for hours. I loved the
swinging bed and ocean sounds at night. No TV, cars or city sounds. What a life, and the only
way to relax!

*The light brown dog is a Yelapa icon, and favorite pet of every guest. His name is Monzano,
which means “apple tree.” He will con you into thinking you are his only love!

Thank you, Yelapa! Thank you, Annie! Thank you, Sarah! For many separate reasons you have
all conspired to contribute to a dreamy nine days here. Where now will I go to find fresh tortillas
and adoptable pets, raicia and fireflies, and the sound of waves all night (and day?) I love this
place and will keep it in my heart until I return.
¡Con mucho gusto!

The best vacation ever! So relaxing and peaceful. No cars, TVs; no worries. Friendly people and
the best food. Such a beautiful place—it is breath-taking! After seeing all the wonderful things

Casa Luna—oo la la! What a treat! Time to reserve my next trip. Yelapa is truly a magical place;
good food (great, even, at La Gallaria). Fun snorkeling and kayaking, fun drinking moonshine
with our neighbors. You’ve got to love a vacation without the traffic. Good bye Luna. Hope to see
you soon. Thanks again Sarah and David.

What an awesome vacation! A little culture shock—the first night… (we got lost in the cemetery.)
But after a few shots of raicilla everything was A-ok. David is a true lifesaver. Every time we’d
need him he would somehow miraculously appear!! Gracias David. ¡¡Eres mi heroe!! Casa
Estrella was super cozy and spectacular. There’s nothing more peaceful than the crashing waves
at night. Beautiful! The Yelapa people were wonderful and super helpful (thanks for leading us
the right way after the first night!) The ever-present fuzzy white dogs were very cute (especially
the little one with the under bite) and the food was GREAT! Even what came out of our kitchen—
hurray for fresh fish and shrimp! Do recommend:
•        Parasailing
•        Snorkeling
•        Visiting the waterfalls
•        Ceviché on the beach
•        Coconuts
•        Margaritas at Vortex Café
•        Riding the seagoing vessel at the lagoon
•        Check your sheets for scorpions

Many thanks for a week away from email, bills, chores, errands, gas tanks, etc. It was needed.
We had an incredible day trip to the Marietta Islands with Luis and fresh ceviché. Unbelievable
scuba diving every day. There were dolphins or manta rays jumping right in front of our palapa!
Thank you, David, and the friendly folks of Yelapa for a relaxing week. The waves are
hypnotizing!

Hola Sarah and Steve. We’re so happy to know that Casas de Santa Cruz is here. We think next
time we would like to stay longer. You’re doing a fabulous job with your renovating. We enjoyed
everything immensely! If you ever come through Breckenridge don’t forget to look us up.

Casa Luna
Casa Luna is fabulous! We love all the downstairs beds for lounging, but especially appreciate
the foresight some genius had to put in the round window. Definitely the best seat in the house!
Some advice… don’t come in after dark with the flashlights packed away and with 4 children.
Maybe too late if you’re here reading this…
Favorite food… tortilla soup at Lagunita, or Papusas here in our own kitchen with good masa
from La Tienda.

Papusas
(recipe from Lilly’s Café in Malibu, California – thanks, Lilly!)
Masa
Beans
Cheese
1.        add water to masa paste until it is the consistency of dough
2.        form masa into ball (palm size). Poke hole to make “well”
3.        place small amount beans & cheese into well
4.        pinch closed and pat between hands (like tortilla)so filling is inside
5.        fry in butter over low heat, both sides

Dear David, thank you for teaching me how to make bracelets with my name on it! I can’t believe
you remembered how to make them from when you were six! I’m very happy I got to come stay in
Yelapa and meet you! Thanks a lot.

Casas Estrella & Luna
We love this place! Spent first week at Estrella and moved down for the rest of the trip to Luna.
We feel like we’ve found “our spot” for return visits. We saw more marine life on this trip than we’
ve ever seen in one place—humpback whales breaching in the bay, an orca by the point, manta
rays clearing the water in mating ritual, dolphins all over the place! We began every day with the
guys going fishing on the rock right in front of Luna and catching me a fresh breakfast. If you go
before 7:30 am you are practically guaranteed to catch some type of rock fish. I loved everything
they caught except the Jack-type fish and some other long, oval shaped silver fish (too many
bones). We love the environment and this place serves to remind me to buy organically whenever
possible… Thank you, Sarah, for having Dr. Bronner’s soap here as an option! We really
appreciated the little touches here, like beach towels, snorkeling gear and life jackets. It’s nice
not to have to bring these things from the US. I’ll miss the view and the people most of all. It cools
off quite a bit here in December, but five blankets per bed kept us warm!

Thank you for a wonderful stay. Such a friendly town and an excellent palapa. The caretaker is a
very nice man and it’s nice to have the “extras” in the storage unit. If you can believe it, my
husband caught fish with a travel fishing rod and some cheese. We read entire books and loved
the peaceful atmosphere. The dogs in the town seemed to be our tour guides. We love it here!
We saw four jumping dolphins! It was quite exciting for inland city folk such as ourselves.

What a view! Thanks for having this place to share. We were practically lulled to sleep by the
rocking bed and crashing waves. What an amazing way to greet the morning! We enjoyed eating
at Cascada, Manguitos and Pollo Bollo. You cannot go wrong at any of these places. Thanks for
the peace.

We were completely charmed by Casa Luna and felt as comfortable as being at home—only
more restful! David was so helpful. I would recommend anyone new to this casita arrive in the

What a great place! We had two wonderful nights here—not much sleep with the crashing
waves, but that is part of the charm. We had great fun exploring all the pathways in and out of
town. Two nights of wonderful cuisine—first at Pollo Bollo (good recommendation from Sarah)
and second at Oasis. Who would have thought you would find an excellent French restaurant in
the heart of Mexico? We swam, snorkeled, read and relaxed. One of the highlights was coming
home on the second night to find a hermit crab in the lounge! We had such fun watching this
eccentric creature. Great to meet some of the local residents, and David was very welcoming.
Thanks for the fun stay.

Casa Luna
Casa Luna is my
ESPECIAL! Thanks for a wonderful week of relaxing Yelapa style. Started out
the week with the disco at the yacht club… sampled the many fine cafes & restaurants Yelapa
has to offer—Pollo Bollo (fish vera cruz-yum!); Yacht Club fish and chips; Cascada’s ambianace;
the smiling lady at the tienda as she cheerfully traded in our empties and replaced with a couple
of “cold ones.” Explored some of the back country trails (Cascades restaurant is at the town
waterfall, NOT at the big waterfall—slow discovery for us).  Most favorite of all has been just
chillin’ at the casa! Casa Luna has INCREDIBLE views!
•        My favorite—watching the sea life from second story balcony, and then going snorkeling
among them
•        Observing whales breaching while relaxing in hammock with cold beer
•        Getting “buzzed” by dolphins while in kayaks
•        Watching (via snorkel) manta rays in sand in front of casa
•        Talking to wonderful earthlings on playa Isabel
•        Getting “lucky” spotting a scorpion 
•        Getting unlucky being stung/bitten by every critter around (itch … scratch …) 
•        Watch out for jellyfish!
Not to miss:
•        The banana bread at the bakery, and pecan cookies if she has them—yum!
•        Moonshine (raicilla)
•        Snorkeling WEST of Casa Luna (clearer and TONS of pescados)
•        View from the shower of Casa Luna
•        View from the second story of Casa Luna
Thanks, David.  ¡
Muchas gracias por pescado! ¡Hasta luego!

Casas Sol & Luna
We had a great four day stay at Casas de Santa Cruz. The people of Yelapa were so friendly
and helpful—on our first day we were saved by the people at Vortex Café who showed us very
confused and lost girls how to get to our place. We snorkeled right below our place at the private
beach and hiked to the various waterfalls, each of which was a challenge to find on our own.
Again, the Yelapa residents were awesome help. Cooking in, while watching the view was the
way to go. Overall, this was an amazing and memorable vacation—one we will never forget.
Tips:
•        The waterfall in town is only 10 minutes away—ask anyone in the pueblo for directions
•        Ask about the water hole where you can go swimming—you won’t be sorry!
•        Meat eaters—ask store owners for meat. They have it, but it is usually not on display
•        In rainy season, wear bug repellant and use mosquito netting over beds
•        Watch for jelly fish in the ocean; they’ll sting you!
•        If David isn’t around, the extra blankets and towels are in the laundry bodega above Casa
Sol
•        If you love dogs, befriend the tan houndish one (his name is Monzano). He is the sweetest,
and will follow you on hikes and beach tours (and eat your meat scraps)
•        Drink the tequila, but don’t eat the worm!

January 2006
Casa Luna
We found Casas de Santa Cruz on the Internet and had doubts on the way here whether it could
truly be as advertised, but we were fully charmed by this place! Within a few days we abandoned
our plan of discovering other places in Mexico. We decided to stay here instead. The trip to the
waterfall is great. The snorkeling in front of the house is good when the waves are not too big.
Jellyfish are around, but the stings aren’t bad. We loved sleeping in the “washing machine”—
rocking to the sound of the waves. I’m guessing it is similar to being in your mother’s belly, but
with surround sound. Eating at the Oasis makes you think you are in France. The Eclipse Café
(which has Internet) is a pleasure. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing a bit of paradise with us.
“Holiday” is a great state of mind—we’ll take it with us as a souvenir.

January 2006
Casa Luna
We came to Yelapa and Casa Luna to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I cannot for the life of me
think of a place more suitable for us. Although the crashing waves were louder than we expected,
it wasn’t long before we found the sound to be so relaxing. The views from the 2nd floor of Luna
are spectacular! We watched dolphins play in front of us, and whales pass by the mouth of
Yelapa’s cove. The food in the village is remarkable, and so is the main beach. The people are
so friendly and helpful. Thanks to David. Although we never really needed his help he stopped by
daily to ensure that we were comfortable. This was a very special week for us—one which we
came into with pretty high expectations. It is very safe to say that those expectations were
exceeded vastly by the relaxation, the comforts of Luna and the overall experience of Yelapa!

My yoga instructor brought us to Yelapa for a yoga retreat. Our family had great fun swimming,
snorkeling, fishing and playing water polo. We enjoyed the wonderful people of Yelapa. Alicia

warm, friendly people fed our souls. Thank you so much for the spacious, airy, open lovely

We truly found a slice of paradise. Last fall, quite by chance, I came across an article about
Yelapa—and decided that this is where we would spend our winter break. It has truly been worth
it. Sarah was so forthcoming and helpful. David met us at the beach and we quickly settled in.
The time went by too fast! The food was great, the people very helpful. We had a perfect trip to

We had a wonderful time. The casita was a great experience. WE loved the village and the food.
The trip to Marietta Islands with Seph was a wonderful experience—great snorkeling and bird

Swinging beds and relaxing rays
Adoring dogs and their welcoming gaze
Simple abundance Yelapa style
It’s been a while…
The crashing waves replace all the hustle
Communing with schools of fish replace all the bustle
Soon it will be back to the northeast freeze
Far away, but not out of mind will be the gentle and
soothing Yelapan breeze
Things to do:
•        Eat at Andy’s. It’s one of those places you keep going back to
•        David’s dog, Geo, was great company and always brought over lots of friends. She likes to

•        Best computer for burning photo files is at Mimi’s Café. It has all the memory card slots
•        The big waterfall is worth the hike! I had it all to myself early morning

Casas Estrella, Luna & Sol
A fabulous week of making art with women. Casa Santa Cruz is the perfect setting—the crashing
ocean, dolphins, the beach, the wonderful cool breeze… the hanging beds are fabulous! Thank
you for all your help.
What a wonderful experience! Sleeping with the song of the ocean, watching the morning light
from Casa Luna, exploring the rocky paths, watching and listening to the many birds and trying to
capture some of the sights and beauty on paper and canvas. This week in Yelapa will live with
me for a long time!
I certainly enjoyed doing art with women here on the point. There were many interesting scenes
to paint and it was a very pleasant environment. We had our own little village for a week to be
together, listen to the waves, rock in our beds, eat great meals together and explore the town of
Yelapa. I loved the birds, the restaurants and the natural areas. Thanks for having tese three
palapas, each with their own personality.
The waves are the best music in the world to sleep by. Thank you!

•        Pollo Bollo restaurant
•        The Oasis restaurant with Greg & Peir
•        Mimi’s Café
•        The huavos at the Vortex Café
•        Try Raicia (moonshine), but be careful!

Yelapa is a wonderful and peaceful place to get away from civilization. I have loved the ocean,
the dolphins, the waterfall, the flowers, the dogs, the breeze, the people, the unusual sights—
iguana in my path back from the waterfall, calf, foal and piglet, black beetles. At first I said coming
here was like going to an inexpensive spa—great but simple food and lots of exercise, plus the
relaxation from hearing crashing waves all night and day. After hiking to the falls I said it was
more like boot camp—getting whipped into shape. This morning my body feels more like it’s been
tortured! Yesterday I rode a horse and I can barely sit down. I’ve probably lost 5 pounds, or
gained it in muscle. It’s good to know an old granny can still do all these arduous activities and
feel the better (spiritually) and the worse physically—but that will change once the bruises
diminish and the muscles and joints loosen up. David has been wonderfully and discreetly
helpful. He is a great asset to Casa Santa Cruz. After going to the dance I now know where old
hippies come to die and young “wannabes” come to hang out. The dancing was hilarious but the
dancers were so thoroughly enjoying it one could only be happy at the scene. Suggestions:
sharp knives, better directions for how to get around Yelapa on the website (it was hard to find
things and easy to forget how you got there the first time!)  Sitting in the hammock is the best
seat in the house. The view is spectacular. The gentle sway and the sound of the waves—talk
about a rebirth experience! Good luck, Sarah, with your venture here. All the best to you. You are
living a life others only dream of!

Oh beautiful Yelapa! My husband marveled last night, after wishing on a falling star, how we
always gravitate to the most amazing, remote and untouched places in the world. Yelapa seems
so preserved in time, with only a few modern conveniences creeping in. We hope (for our own
sake) that the road never makes it here! Casa Sol is wonderfully rustic and our three kids
thoroughly enjoyed playing the Swiss Family Robinson for a week! Highlights include:
•        Geo and Nanu (pups), our protectors and love dogs, who adopted us for the week
•        Trip to the islands with Seph—amazing sights and cerviche
•        Finding the fish market, tortillaria and cookie lady
•        The pie lady on the beach—banana and cheese pies are our favorites
•        Snorkeling, swimming and endless playing in the waves
•        The overall ambiance of the town and its residents
•        The beautiful views, crashing surf sounds and swaying beds calm the soul and heal all ills
Thank you for an amazing adventure—we will be back!
         (From the kids):
Yelapa totally rules! We swam so much every day I have a feeling that we’re going to smell like
salt water when we get home. I’m sure we’ll be back some day, but thanks for letting us stay in
this amazing place and for making it possible for us to experience a new country and culture for
the first time.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. The palapa was all we had hoped and the view
was even as wonderful. When people set out to find a quiet paradise there’s always the worry
that they’re not going to find it… my worry no longer exists, knowing that Yelapa is a reality. Silly
as it may sound, I have cried already twice this morning thinking about leaving. Thank you David
and Geo for being a comforting presence and familiar face in and around town. Can’t wait to plan
our honeymoon for next year; we already know where to go—Casa Luna, Yelapa! Some things
we liked:
•        Pancakes and coffee on patio
•        Never knowing what time it was
•        Snorkeling
•        Breakfast burrito at Bahia Café
•        Dinner/jam session at Mimi’s
•        The view and art at The Galleria
•        Lazy days at the main beach
•        Afternoon siestas on the swinging bed
•        Grocery shopping at the little tiendas (markets) in the pueblo

Things we’ve left:
•        Candles
•        Pancake mix
•        Head lamp
•        Size 11 Nike’s
Things we’re taking:
•        Beach glass
•        Tans
•        A memory to live a life for
•        A new place to call our home

We’re back in Yelapa for the second year. We loved our stay. It’s always good to be with just our
family—2 kids 11 & 9 years old. We borrowed the fishing rod and bought shrimp for bait. The kids
had fun fishing. It was great to be so close to the water. We brought a couple of blow up rafts
with us and spent most of our days snorkeling and lazing around on Isabel Beach.  We bought
tortillas at the tortilla factory every day and ate a lot of shrimp and avocado and fresh tomato. We
cooked most of our meals here and enjoyed the big kitchen. We brought some Trader Joe curry
and pilaf and Thai noodles from home. It made for easy cheap dinners. Yelapa is perfect for it’s
beauty, simplicity and opportunity to re-unite as a family.

Our first visit to Yelapa, and we love it! Casa Luna is fantastic; we hope to come again. Things
we learned:
•        Pollo Bollo has great food, but plan on getting there early.
•        The Panederia (bakery) has great banana bread, cinnamon rolls and cookies. It is on the
way to town
•        The waterfall hike (big waterfall upriver) but it takes more like 2 hours on foot each way, not
one.
•        Snorkeling right outside our door is great

I came with the B___ family (above) and stayed at Casa Sol. It was our first time to Yelapa and
we will return! Casa Sol is fantastic. David is terrific, helpful and very genuine. He enjoys being
the caretaker. Brewers, you really have a GREAT asset here. Casa Sol is charming; every corner
has something. The village, the people, the food, the nature that surrounded us here this past
week was unbelievable. We needed rest and we got that and more. We read many books—
averaged 2 to 3 per person. I even read a book, and I never read. The sound of the waves, the
hanging bed, watching the donkeys and people go by, searching for dolphins, & manta rays…
snorkeling, talking to lots of interesting people—it was great. We are leaving rejuvenated! And we
hope to come back some time next year. Thank you, Brewer family for letting us share this bit of
paradise!!

Casa Luna
Thank you for the best vacation ever. We enjoyed everything about Yelapa and Casa Luna…
especially never really knowing what time it is… and better yet, not needing to or caring. ☺
Thanks to Geo and David for being so welcoming. Yelapa is a magical place that gives you so
much… a new perspective… a break from the rat race… and teaches you about yourself. Make
sure you don’t miss:
•        Eating yummy pie on the beach while sipping margaritas
•        Breakfast and coffee at the Vortex Café
•        Pizza on the beach at the Barracuda
•        Yelapa Oasis… great dinner and international friends and…
Relax…
Slow down…
You are on Yelapa time!
Many, many thanks. We will be back! A week is not enough.
